Stop Detention Centers North Carolina is a grassroots movement of concerned residents
united against immigrant detention centers
in North Carolina.
We believe that every person deserves
dignity, respect, and security, regardless
of their immigration status. The actions of
federal immigration services and their
facilities not only deny immigrants of these core values, but also deny basic human and constitutional rights to those they detain. Through community organizing, civic engagement, and grassroots lobbying,
SDCNC is working to block the opening
of new ICE facilities in our state.
SDCNC was formed on February 1st, 2026
by a small group of activists from other organizations and movements. We now have over 200 members and collaborate with multiple local organizations including Indivisible, 50501, Democracy Out Loud,
ED4D, and the ACLU. We are not a
registered non-profit organization, but
remain a grassroots collective of volunteers dedicated to the opposition of ICE facilities. We are building relationships with local representatives, organizing events, attending public government meetings, and doing outreach and tabling at rallies and protests.
Stop Detention Centers North Carolina recognizes the validity of using the term 'concentration camps' to describe ICE detention centers. While we might refer
to them as such in some cases, we believe
that the use of 'detention centers' for our organization name may open doors to conversations with populations with which
we need dialogue the most. Please know
that we believe that these detention centers are, without question, the very definition of concentration camps.
